Bauhinia Party

According to the platform of this new Bauhinia Party, it seeks to promote a “democratic” political system suitable for Hong Kong on the basis of the rule of law and civil liberties “with the realization of universal suffrage as guaranteed by the Basic Law.” The party seeks to have another 50 years of “one country, two systems” in Hong Kong after 2047, including the realization of the principles of “loving China and Hon Kong,” protecting the rule of law, and promoting a bicameral system in which the lower house would be composed of directly elected members and an upper house comprising members appointed by the Chief Executive. The party also supports public-public partnership in financing the Lantau Tomorrow Vision, while aiming at recruiting as many as 250,000 members in the society of Hong Kong. As a political party, it will naturally nominate and support candidates for the Legislative Council and Chief Executive elections in the future.  From an objective perspective, the ...

JUSTIÇA

mai23 Hong Kong’s government has passed a law that allows authorities to ban foreign lawyers from working on national security cases, completing a months-long effort to block a UK lawyer from defending media mogul and activist Jimmy Lai. The amendment, which was passed unanimously by the Legislative Council on Thursday, gives the chief executive the power to veto any foreign lawyer from working on cases brought under the 2020 National Security Law (NSL). Lai, the founder of now defunct Apple Daily newspaper and   a high profile pro-democracy figure , was first arrested in August 2020. He has since been charged with foreign collusion under the sweeping NSL, after calling for sanctions against Hong Kong and China over their crackdown on the pro-democracy movement. If convicted he could face life in prison. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/may/11/hong-kong-passes-law-to-limit-work-of-foreign-lawyers-amid-ongoing-jimmy-lai-case ab23 Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong was sentenced Mo...

Curar feridas

out20 Fearing the loss of Hong Kong to a separatist movement fuelled by foreign interference, China is determined to act tough even if it risks alienating the man in the street.  Hong Kong must secure both Beijing’s trust and international confidence, while China’s leaders need to figure out Hong Kong’s value to the nation  https://www.scmp.com/comment/opinion/article/3105134/how-hong-kong-and-beijing-can-pick-pieces-after-months-tumult
